¿Adiós puntos negros? / Goodbye blackheads?

One of the categories I follow the most in Pinteret is the one about beauty and make up tutorials. There's loads of tricks to solve any problem you have. But... ¿do they work? A lot of pins seem too good to be true and well, sometimes a miracle happens and other times... nope.

This week I decided to try a pin that claimed to erase the blackheads in 5 minutes. It was simple and I had the ingredients: An slice of lemon and 3 honey drops.

Antes/Before

This is my nose, unretouched. I dont have very obvious blackheads (I dont really like to show them on the Internet anyway, but it is to prove a point) but I do have them.

The next step is prepare the lemon and honey mix. I used two pieces, one for the nose and one for the chin, the only areas I do have Blackheads.

You just need to rub the lemon and honey mix on the affected areas and leave the mixture work during 5 minutes.

¿Resultado? Result?

Como podéis ver la diferencia es mínima... Es decir: NO FUNCIONA.

As you can see there's a minimal difference... So: IT DOES NOT WORK.

Save your money and the ingredientes because it actually does nothing at all. Maybe with a regular use, but not 5 minutes. And I don't want to use it regularly because lemon dries the skin.

Rosas Secas - Dry Roses

Last week I know I didn't publish anything, in fact I've been focused on looking for a job and of course, on my passion in this life, writting, that's actually what I want to live for. If it can't be... it won't be because I dind't try, right? Sometimes you need to sort out your priorities and in this case my carreer and myself beat the rest. But actually I had a proyect on the way...

Some weeks ago I received flowers from my boyfriend as a gift for finishing my masters, I was so happy with them that I wanted to preserve them forever. I went on a Pinterest quest to achieve it and of course, I succeeded.

The first step was looking "how to dry roses". The only thing I dried before were leaves and small flowers inside a book, but they came out flat and I didn't want my roses that way, I wanted them with volume. I saw several methodes, one of them was baking them for several hours in the oven but apart from being a waste of energy seems dangerous, specially with a gas oven like in my house.

Finally I picked an slow but safe methode, it's the basic one but improved. I read in lot of sites that you just need to put the flowers hanging downwards, but in another site I saw that it't better that also you wrap them in newspaper sheets to absorb humidity and to put them in a dark fresh place. I had them in my toilet, it was kind of weird, but in a bit more than a week my flowers were dry and beautiful.

You have to touch the flowers every day until they are completelly dry, they have to sound like creasing paper, it shouldn't be soft, otherwise they will rote. It's better to leave them longer if you're not sure. Once I had the roses I needed to think what to do with them, I didn't like the idea of having the dried roses in a flower pot, it would look like I'm too lazy to put them away... So again, Pinterest helped me.

I hated the heart shaped distribution, too romantic and sickly sweet, so I decided to put them in a more simple way. I changed the colours as well, of course. Just to remind myself and everyone else that Pinterest is not to copy everything but get inspired by...

I didn't want to spend money on one of those boxed frames, I don't know how are they called. So I had to do it myself with a bit of imagination, it was very simple at the end.

Necesitarás / You'll need

Papel adhesivo o de regalo / Contact paper or wrapping paper
Pegamento / Glue
Tijeras / Scissors
Cinta adhesiva / Tape

Separate the frame in parts. Glue the crystal part to the frame and let it dry. Wrap the background with contact paper or wrapping paper. If you use contact paper, careful, I had some creases that later were covered with the roses, but it's better if you get a plain surface.

2. Cortar las rosas justo bajo la "cabeza"

Cut the roses right below the "head"

Try and sort the roses the way you like them most. When you fins the perfect combination glue them to the background.

Alto: 4cm
Tiras necesarias: 30x4 cm (x2) 20x4 cm (x2)

The next step is meassuring the highest point of your roses and leave couple of milimeters to be sure. In my case it was 4cm in total. Cut cardboard strips with the meassurements you need. For example:

Frame: 30x20 cm
Height: 4cm
Needed strips: 30x4 cm (x2) 20x4 cm (x2)

Glue them to the fram and the background. You can use tape to strenghten the corners.

Finally I added two stems on the sides because I felt it was a bit empty. I also wrapped the outside of the cardboard to cover the tape. I liked the cardboard colour inside. This is the final result.

Ahora sólo necesito colgarlo en mi habitación. Estoy muy contenta con el resultado.

Now I just need to hang it in my room. I'm very happy with the result.

Lush is one of the brands I absolutelly adore and I don't really mind spending money in their shops because if you choose a product that adjusts to your needs... granted success! It's really worth it. In addition the ingredients are natural and there's a lot of vegan products. In short, quality and freshness are their main virtue. Apart from that their sellers are extremelly nice, doesn't matter which shop I go, they will treat you with kindness. You can endlessly ask them questions, for testers or try products in the shop and they will never give you an attitude. The only objection would be the price of some products, but sometimes if you want to get certain results you need to pay for it.

These are the products I'm loyal to: Jumping Juniper solid shampoo, H'sua Wen Hua hair mask, Jungle hair conditioner and Dark Angels facial scrub. I admit I would buy the whole shop but unfortunatelly I can't afford it so I just try other products from time to time to treat myself. One of those products that I tried and loved them right away was Bubblegum lip scrub. It seems not so pricey but actually it uses up quite quickly, maybe it's just me but I couldn't stop using it.

Así que Pinterest acudió en mi ayuda - So Pinterest came to rescue me.

¡Increíblemente fácil! ¡Incredibly easy!

Ingredientes/ Ingredients

Azúcar - Sugar
Aceite de coco - Coconut Oil*
Colorante alimenticio rojo o rosa - Red or Pink Food Coloring

*The original recipe has Jojoba oil, but the girl of the original pin uses walnut oil and I picked coconut oil because it has a lot of properties and uses and I can't live without it. Also in the original pin she uses Almond aroma but coconut oil smells fantastic already and I like it even more.

The first thing you need to do is filling a bit less than half of your recipient with the oil of choice. In my case I used an old box from an Essence moisturizer. Coconut oil can be really solid but if you wisk it and warm it up with your hands meanwhile, it aquires an ideal texture for this purpose.

Next thing you need to do is filling the rest of the container with sugar and mix it a bit.

Y ahora a mezclar bien.

After that you pour ONE DROP of food coloring, there's no need of pouring more, so, careful. And now, mix well.

¡Y listo para usar!
Ready to use!

If anyone don't know how to use this it's very simple, you take a little amount with your finger and apply it like lip balm, but careful, lip skin is really sensitive and we just want to remove dead skin, not irritate our lips. After that you can clean it or... yum! it's edible!

¿Os animáis a probarlo?
Wanna try it?

Tarros - Mason Jars

This week I haven't done a proper DIY, I mean, it's not something I've never done, it's something I needed, my eyes were really asking for it. Now that I have this blog I feel way more motivated to do this kind of things.

One of the things that bothers me the most of Pinterest (the top one is that sometimes you need things that are as rare as unicorn blood)  is that there's a lot of mason jar DIY but a lot of people buy brand new ones. ¿Why does it bothers me? Well, I think it's bullshit, we use this kind of packaging more often that we think: jams, pre-cooked legumes or vegetables, cacao cream, peanut butter... And instead of repurposing them we recycle them or even worse, throw them away with the organic trash.

When I was in primary school I remember that once they called our attention because we used to throw into the reclycling box any paper we could't use to hand in homework but maybe we could use for drafts and other stuff. They made us a poster with a message that got stuck in my mind: "Recycling also contaminates". Of course it is better than throw it to the trash can but the 3R rule is something we tend to forget way too often. The first step is always Reduce by buying products that have unnecessary packaging. In the second place we should try to Repurpose as much as we can. If we can't avoid it, the last step is Recycle. Do you see what I mean? Some crafting-bloggers don't take in account these things, maybe it look way more cute but with a bit of effort we can get something similar and environmentally friendly.

After all this eco-drag... time to show you what I've been doing these days.

I stored in mason jars other products with ugly packaging that generally are on sight in my room.

Original packaging of the product (Rose water) vs. Mason jar

Tarro de mantequilla de cacahuete decorado vs. Tarro original
Decorated peanut butter mason jar vs. Original jar

It's as simple as clean the labels and put a piece of cloth glued to the lid with a ribbon, yarn or cord around it. Sometimes you just need to paint the lid. What do you think?

Imanes personalizados - DIY Magnets

I still don't know the grades of my master, I don't know if it's a good or a bad sign or just a matter of time, but I try to keep myself busy as much as I can. This week I've been enjoying my hobbies: playing guitar and ukulele, singing, reading for pleasure for the first time in a really long time, wandering around second hand shops to find good and cheap vynils, meeting with my friends... I'm also helping my roomate as much as I can with her studies, she has a lot to do before being able to finish. I tried to make some time for crafting, of course. I though that with all this free time I would be able to do more diy proyects but apparently there's life beyond books and blank Word pages, who would say?

A few days ago I rescued a very interesting Pin to improve something that wasn't making me very happy. My fridge was full of the typical propaganda magnet or just plain horrible ones that were not even mine, they belong to old tennants from this flat and they haven't miss them in years so I guess I'm free to improve them, right? It's a very simple proyect because... who doesn't own ugly but useful magnets?

¿Qué vais a necesitar?

What do you need? Well, the main thing is the magnets you want to upcycle, the rest it can be almost anything. In the original pin they use old jewelry, but personally I don't own anything that I'm not going to use in the future or at least that I want to get rid of it. In my case I used beads, little bows, pearls, nail polish, a Guerlain's perfume label and music festival memorabilia... all those things I had at home.

Once they are splited it's time to use your imagination and create designs... Use cardboard bases if you think it's necessary to reinforce any of your items or just as a guide.

Once they're finishes you just need to place them on the fridge...

What do you think about this?

Esconder enchufes - Hide Plugs

¿Decoraciones serias y sofisticadas? y sobretodo... ¿Instalaciones como es debido? "Ain't nobody got time for that!".

Despite that I'm not longer a student, I think it's an attitude and a way of life hard to leave behind. The transition is going to be tough, some aspects more than others, of course. One of the most complicated things to change will be that thing such as "a grown-up proper house". Furniture that doesn't come from Ikea? Serious and sophisticated decorations? and of course... Suitable installations? Ain't nobody got time for that! Well, time and neither money, I'm not going to lie. In two weeks I'll be seeking for a ob and maybe one day I start seeing my room in another way and I go batshit mental and start changing stuff.

For now this is it, I like my room full of Ikea and second hand shops furniture because I made it by myself with a ridiculous amount of money and for now I don't wan't to mess up my life, I will have time and resources in a couple of months. Maybe I'm taking it way too easy but that's how I do everything and it went pretty good. First I'm going to take care of what I consider a priority and when I see that life emotions are vanished I will start changing other things. That's why today I will show you a great idea to hide those horrible extension plugs.

Personally I didn't want to seek metal pieces and tools for something that is going to be under my desk, so it will be a bit more rustic version of the Pinterest one but in my opinion evenly effective.

Estas son las herramientas necesarias. These are the required tools.

The next step is meassuring the extension plug you want to hide and draw with a pencil some lines to guide you to make the holes and cuts.

Once the cuts are done we have to proceed to introduce the plug carefully. We don't want to fold it more than necessary or even worse, break it.

The next step is make a big cut in the side of the box that we need. It all depends on where do you want to place the box and the cable direction. It depends in every case. The window doesn't have to be nice if it's facing the wall like mine. But in case it needs to be seen just make a little effort so it's not even worse than leave the plugs outside.

That's all, the only thing left is to use it. It's very handy because apart from hide an eyesore of your house it has room to store chargers so you don't need to move them around the house if not necessary. In my case I can even use it to rest my feet! for real.

¡Animáos a hacerlo!

It takes less than 30 minutes to do it, seriously. And besides it can't be less unexpensive. If for some reason you don't want to buy a box you can use a shoe box and decorate it with anything you got at home. What are you waiting for? Do it!

I'm in a transition time of my life... but just since yesterday. It's a very weird feeling and I can't help but start questioning  lot of things and to hurrry myself and it feels uterly overwhelming. Maye it's just the starting point and perhaps I shouldn't rush so much yet, anyway, there's nothing official still. Yes, I just finnished my Masters and I'm completelly lost.

I arrived home yesterday after a succesfull presentation in my opinion, but... who knows, right? The first thing I did was calling my mum, sitting down on the couch and driking tea. Half an hour later I was already asking myself  "And now what?". I think I'm going to need to adapt little by little to this transition. Sounds crazy, I know. It's like a jet-lag from life.

Anyway I had to get up from the couch and start working on something because yesterday night we had a supper at our neighbours appartment and you just can't go with empty hands there and I had plenty time to do something. This might be not strictly related with the main goal of the blog but I think it's worth sharing because anyway those are unwritten rules.

Sometimes looking for recipes I get so frustrated because in a dish that contains many parts you never find the perfect option. Sometimes there are ingredients or tools that are not easy to find or it's not worth to buy them to use them once. Also in other occasions one of the ingredients doesn't satisfy you or the way of cooking it doesn't adjust to your way of living. So from a long time ago what I do is make my own combinations instead of full recipes, like the cake I baked yesterday.

The first thing I did was look for a simple chocolate sponge cake. In this case I didn't have to worry about any alergy, so I had numerous opcions. I had one thing clear, I prefer the sponge cakes that contain yoghourt instead of milk, I think the texture is way better. Secondly I needed to find something for the filling. I'm not used to fill cakes, but it was an special day so I wanted to try something new and I picked a chocolate with milk ganache. Lastly something to cover and decorate. Maybe this is not very orthodox but as a cupcake lover I decided to make a cream cheese frosting, a very simple one with just 3 ingredients.
I'm very satisfied with the result.

Mix separatelly solid and liquid ingredients.
Add liquid ingredients to the solids and mix well until you get an even texture and bake in the oven at 180º during aproximatelly 30 minutes.

Ganache: 420gr chocolate con leche-chocolate with milk/ 200gr nata-cream
-Derrite el chocolate al baño maría. / Melt the chocolate bain marie style (water in a pot)
-Calienta la nata sin dejar que hierva / Warm up the cream but don't let it boil.
Mix well and let it get cold in the fridge until it's not too liquid.

Add the cream cheese and keep mixing until you get an even mixture.

Consejos / Tips:
Never put the ganache or the frosting while the sponge cake is still warm.
To divide the cake use oddorless dental floss or simple thread carefully because it's more fragile.
